CGM and its partner organizations advocate for results-based financing, which increases the efficacy and transparency of impact-focused giving. Current approaches often fail to produce meaningful outcomes, and the popular perception of best practices must change if investors seek to make actual change in the future.

We’re optimistic that policy makers, like those gathered by the OECD, can bring stakeholder-driven solutions to advance real social and environmental impact from convenings like the one we participated in. But like any policy, guide or program, only measured and verified outcomes along with time will reveal their effectiveness. 

There have been countless articles in the last few months detailing the many failings of ESG. Perhaps the industry should consider using rigorously quantified, independently verified and valued social impacts as both more credible performance markers and valuable assets.
